It was a bit of a challenge trying to get her facial features right, and I'm not sure how successful I was, but I feel like I *did* manage to capture something of her spirit. I particularly enjoyed sketching in the sparkly galaxy background. ^__^

I started trying to learn how to draw again a couple of months ago, and I've been challenging myself to use brush pens only. For now I'm using black and gray Tombow pens.

Content Notes: I used Ingrès paper for this which I hadn't used in a looong time (last time for a pastel course around 2014?). I used black ink and a white gel pen. I think this was the hardest challenge in this comm I have ever done. Figuring out the mid-tones was a nightmare and I think I overdid it with the highlights. Anyway, it was a great learning experience which I will repeat! Oh, and I took a photo in sunlight that's why there's this light on the left.

Comic panel: Jim to Spock: ha ha, great Halloween costume with the witchy ears and black cat and spooky mind-melding. Spock: It is not a costume. Jim: ???. Bones: I've been saying he's hinky for years!

Content Notes: I chose the title for all its positive as well negative (co-dependency) associations. I used several types of pencils for this and the last piece of white carton I had. Skin tone variations are really hard to convey in pencil. I really have to do a colour version of Michael soon (my other attempt was in pencil as well).

Content Notes: Created for Challenge #14: Ethnic Diversity. Sketched with lead pencil in my daily planner. The page I've drawn upon is the weekend of the 3rd and 4th March, which is when I started watching Star Trek: Discovery for the first time, and ended up marathoning the ENTIRE Season 1 that weekend. *___*

For this sketch, my shading was mostly focused on capturing the contours of her facial features, but really wish I had devoted a little more time to working realistic skin tones into the sketch as well. Something to take into consideration with my next pencil portrait.

Thanks to

goss I can post my results from the second week in a more tidy fashion (~~btw I have no idea why the last icon is smaller, it's 100x100 as well~~ ETA:fixed) :-) I'm probably going to change my plan of doing something every two to three days, now that work's starting again (going through Sunday, blergh). I'll see. Anyway I am pretty happy that I have managed to get a good head start on Inktober, even if the second half of the month will produce fewer drawings.

I managed four pieces this week. I wanted to switch to black ink only but the failed gold ink portrait wouldn't let me be *g*.
